Candance Chow, a candidate for State Representative of the 17th District, has called on her opponent Jennifer Gong-Gershowitz to return campaign contributions that Ms. Gong-Gershowitz has received from the Democratic Majority Political Party Committee, chaired by Michael Madigan.
“Democratic voters in this district want an independent voice working for them in Springfield,” said Ms. Chow, a member and former president of the Evanston/Skokie District 65 School Board, in a prepared statement. “The last thing we need is a representative who owes her seat to Mike Madigan and Springfield insiders. That’s not the way we will bring the needed change to our State.”
Reports filed with the State Board of Elections show that, as of Feb. 14, the Democratic Majority PAC has contributed a total of $43,796 to Ms. Gong-Gershowitz, which amounts are listed as “in kind” contributions for postage and printing. A separate Friends of Madigan PAC has contributed $3,067 to Ms. Gong-Gershowitz in the form of “in kind” contributions for payroll.
“It’s become clear that Jennifer’s campaign is under the control of Mike Madigan’s political operation,” Ms. Chow said.
“To assure voters of the 17th District that she’ll put their interests first, I’m calling on Jennifer to return Madigan’s PAC money,” Ms. Chow said. “We’ll never change the dysfunction in our State government by sticking with business as usual. Our kids and families deserve better.”
